ID Released For Man Shot, Killed In Area

A man who was shot and killed on a sidewalk in the area has been identified by police.

04/19/2022 1:00 p.m.

Dutchess County resident Cain Smalls, age 29, was found around 4 a.m. Sunday, April 17, in the city of Poughkeepsie.

Smalls, of the city of Poughkeepsie, was found after officers responded to the area of 135 Mill St., for a report of shots fired.

He was found with bullets wounds to his torso and transported to Mid Hudson Regional Hospital where he underwent surgery but later died from the injuries, said Det. Sgt. Sean Fitzgerald, of the city of Poughkeepsie Police.

No arrests have been made as of yet and the investigation is ongoing, Fitzgerald said.
